Information Session on County Government Proposal and Candidate Debates Planned at University

The University of Scranton’s Political Science Department and the Lackawanna County’s League of Women Voters will host an educational session about the proposed change to the Lackawanna County three-commissioner structure of government, and they will host two democratic candidate debates prior to the May 20 primary election.

On Tuesday, May 6, at 7 p.m., panelists will discuss the potential effects of replacing Lackawanna County’s three-commissioner system with an elected council and elected executive. Panelists include Jim Bobeck, Esq., a member of the most recent Luzurne County Study Commission and a member of Luzurne County Council, and Thomas Baldino, Ph.D., who served on two Luzurne County Study Commissions and is a professor at Wilkes University. The educational event will take place in the Pearn Auditorium of Brennan Hall.

On Thursday, May 8, at 7 p.m., a debate will be held among the democratic candidates running for office in the 112th Legislative District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, which includes Representative Frank Farina, Representative Kevin Haggerty and Robert Munley. Also on May 8, at 8:15 p.m., democratic candidates running for office in the 113th Legislative District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, which includes Representative Marty Flynn and Lee Morgan, will also debate.

Both debates will take place in the Moskovitz Theater of the DeNaples Center.
